December 12th, 2010 - The NBL is changing the requirements to move from Rookie to Novice (Now called Challenger) and from Challenger to Expert. This change will be effective on January 1st, 2011.

What does it take to move from Rookie to Challenger?

Since the idea of a Rookie in any other sport is that of a first-season player, a Rookie will be moved up to Challenger after a minimum of 40 Gate drops AND a minimum of one (1) year racing.

If a rider has more than 40 Gate drops at any point in the year, then he cannot move up until the end of the full first year. If, however, a rider has less than 40 Gate drops at the end of the first year, then he cannot move up until he achieves the 40 drops.

To move from Challenger to Expert, a rider must meet the following three conditions:

1. A minimum of 100 gate drops (includes 40 earned as Rookie) and

2. A minimum of 24 months total participation and

3. In the 90th Percentile (roughly top 10%) in their class

Here is the link to the riders in the NBL who, if their name appears on this alphabetical list, will be moved up to the next proficency level on January 1st.

June 6th, 2010 - For the nay-sayers out there, the line of thunderstorms hit the Torrington area pretty hard at 2:35. We would probably have gotten one round of motos in before it poured. Its very rare for us to call off a race based on a weather report but this time it proved to be the right decision. There were reports that it was not on the web site. Rest assured that the cancellation notice was posted on the web site at 9:11 am and it was put on the track's answering machine at that same time. As it the case with any web site, you should always right-click on the page and hit refresh to ensure you are viewing the latest version of the page. Free clinic tomorrow night at the track starting at 6:00 pm.

June 16th, 2009 - We discovered that we made a mistake in the Open Wheels Main Event this past Sunday. In adding up the scores, Dave Bedford should not have made the main and John Pinsonnault should have. Our apoligies to John and he has an entry fee credit at the track. We will improve the system because of this mistake. It simply became more difficult by scrambling the motos and we just plain messed up. We do have a plan going forward.

June 9th, 2009 - In this weeks race report I wrote that the start of the race was held up because some Elite Open riders insisted on the gate area be swept prior to them coasting out of the gate. This was found to be totally untrue. I simply should have checked with the gate starter prior to reporting that. Although not all riders were there and ready to go, it was not an issue with sweeping the hill. The missing rider was fixing a flat tire. Unfortunately that did not get reported back to us, I apologize for the misinformation. The comments have been deleted from the report.

MAY 4th, 2009 - The Clinic scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. There will be a Clinic next Monday evening at 6:00. The track is open tonight for anyone who wants to ride. Forcast of rain combined with no racing yesterday has prompted this decision. The thought is that it would be best for the kids to get at least one race in before the first clinic.

MAY 3rd, 2009 - Todays race was rained out just before it was scheduled to start. Its a shame as there were 184 riders registered to race in class and another ten in the Open Wheels goruping. 194 riders and 51 motos washed out. No make up date decided yet.

APRIL 27th, 2009 - As a result or our three Open Houses we have welcomed 15 new riders and enjoyed 35 renewals. A number of applications were given out and we expect the benefits of those will be evident on Opening Day this coming Sunday.

June 30th, 2008 - Frank Buonocore and myself met with the Mayor, two people from soccer, a trafic control officer and the director of the department of public works regarding the ingress and egress to the soccer fields on race day. It seems that soccer has complained (I dont blame them as I would also) about getting through and also expressed a concern for the safety of kids in the road. Parking was the biggest thing and, pictures showing the lines we put down yesterday really helped. Going forward it is very important that no vehicles (or any part of them) are inside the white lines alongside the road. The road MUST be kept accessible including unoccupied bikes, people standing around, pop-ups and trailers. This was a good meeting and some forward plans were spawned but it will be a year or more before significant improvement is enjoyed.

June 29th, 2008 - The race report is now posted for yesterdays race.

June 28th, 2008- Tomorrow (Race Day) you will notice white lines on each side of the road by the track. Please park on the far side of each white line leaving the road completely accessable to traffic. I have been invited to the Mayors office on Monday for a meeting with his honor, members of the city council, a soccer representative and a traffic control officer. This could be good or bad, just not sure at this point but traffic obviously is considered a problem.

February 15th, 2008 - Not really related to Foothills BMX but then again it is. This is a video done by Access Hollywood about Tara Llanes. Tara is a BMXer and more recently, a Mountain Bike Racer. The day before the Grands, she was racing Jill Kitner in Colorado and suffered a horrendous crash and is paralyzed. (Jill Has been to Foothills a number of times). Tara will never give up. If you watch this video and are not moved, you are not human. Tara (whom I've met many times in her BMX days) is now 31 years old. The Video aired on December 26. Her drive and determination should make all of our own petty troubles seem small. I hope your inspired from it.
